Welcome to the Muscle Research Center Erlangen!
Welcome to the MURCE, a multidisciplinary center for muscle research at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg.
The Center was founded in May 2015 by a core group of scientists across the three Faculties of Natural Sciences, Medicine and Engineering with the mission to create a platform for scientific exchange and graduate and post-graduate education around the field of biological, biomedical and technology-related research related to skeletal and heart muscle.
The Center currently comprises of about 40 members across 27 institutes over four faculties and is growing.
The Center is organised into six topic sections covering various fields in muscle research:
- Muscle Function & Biomechanics
- Neuromuscular Disorders, inherited and acquired Myopathies
- Translational Muscle Therapies
- Muscle Development & Muscle Ageing
- Muscle Modulation, Training & Doping
- Muscle Technologies & Biomedical Engineering
The Center is dedicated to crossing the borders between disciplines in Life Sciences, Medicine and Technology Development in order to find tailored solutions to deepen our understanding of function and support of muscle in health and disease. A strong focus is in the exchange of graduate and post-graduate PhD-students and staff between labs to broaden the education of lab techniques for muscle research.
The Center also hosts regular interdisciplinary seminars with external, national and international speakers.
