21st International Workshop on Bone Densitometr
The 21st International Workshop on Bone brings together most of the researchers and clinicians that work in and further develop the field of musculoskeletal imaging. During the earlier meetings DXA and QCT were heavily discussed, later Ultrasound and MRI were included to look at bone structure and more recently FEA and high resolution peripheral QCT as well as in vitro techniques to investigate bone composition at various levels of resolution. This year’s meeting integrates the European Symposium on US Characterization of Bone as well as dedicated sessions for muscle and small animal imaging and opportunistic screening, a promising approach to identify more patients at high risk for osteoporotic fracture by using standard clinical CT scans. Quantitative muscle imaging is a new topic, important not only for sarcopenia and muscle diseases but potentially also for fracture prediction as first results from our group in Erlangen have shown.
